Healthy Halloween Apple MummiesHappy week o’Halloween! These days, Halloween feels synonymous with candy more than anything else. I’m not necessarily complaining, since I love chocolate as much as any other ghoul. I just want to celebrate the holiday without stuffing my toddler full of candy! Those years will come, I know. But at 19 months old, he’s very impressionable with food and hasn’t developed much of a sweet tooth yet. Yet. 

Here’s a healthy snack with foods that you probably already have at home: apples & cheese. I used little candy eyes that I found at our grocery store, although you could also use chocolate chips or raisins for eyes. 

The best part about this snack is the protein + produce combo. Protein helps to fill you up, and fiber helps keep you feeling full. It’s an ideal snack for kids and their mummies! You don’t need a recipe to figure this one out, but I’ve included it below for Pinterest purposes.

Apple Mummies

Prep Time: 5 minutes

Total Time: 5 minutes

Yield: 4 apple mummies

Apple Mummies


  • 1 apple
  • 1 string cheese
  • 8 candy eyes, or 8 raisins, or 8 chocolate chips
  • dash of cinnamon (optional)


  1. Slice the wide ends of an apple, and continue slicing in cross-sections to reach your desired width
  2. Criss cross with short pieces of string cheese
  3. Add eyes
  4. Sprinkle with cinnamon if desired


1 apple and 1 string cheese can make 4 apple mummies
