Homemade Fruity Frozen Yogurt

fruity frozen yogurt treatsWhen I first heard of homemade frozen yogurt, visions of complicated ice cream-making danced in my head. It didn’t occur to me that you just need one ingredient for frozen yogurt: Yogurt, frozen.

fruity frozen yogurt treats dessertI’m always looking for healthy desserts to satisfy my sweet tooth, and this fits the bill. It’s also a fun treat to give to Brady that feels like dessert, but is actually super nutritious. The coldness probably feels good on a teething baby’s gums, too. AND it melts back down to yogurt, so no dripping mess like ice cream.

You can freeze any flavor of yogurt, but I stuck with vanilla. {Use Greek yogurt for that protein!} I blended my yogurt with leftover frozen fruit and chia seeds (remember how they’re good for baby brains?) and a few mini chocolate chips. The flavor combos are limitless, so use whatever leftover fruits and yogurts you have laying around.

To make these shapes, I used two different silicone molds that I found at a craft store – the Silicone Mini Star Mold and tiny starbursts. If you don’t have molds, you can fill an ice cube tray, individual cookie cutter shapes or create little droplets to freeze on parchment paper like these fro yo drops

Have a yogurt that’s nearing its expiration date? Or overly ripe fruit? Perfect for this recipe. These frozen yogurt treats keep well in the freezer, so keep a stash as a sweet & healthy dessert option.
