Time for a pregnancy check-in. It’s hard to believe it’s been a month since my last update! While I wouldn’t go so far as to say this pregnancy is flying by, the rumors are true that it does feel faster the second time around. Living la toddler vida loca means I don’t usually focus on baby #2 until after Brady’s bedtime. And then its time for dishes, work and falling asleep on the couch. 😝
20 weeks is a big milestone, though! There’s so much to be thankful for right now. I’ve reached the halfway point, the little baby kicks have started, and we found out the gender. Which is….
We both had a feeling it was a boy, and most of the gender predictor tests (like this fun one from Tiny Prints) said boy. We actually found out a few weeks ago when a nearby private ultrasound place ran a flash sale that I couldn’t refuse.😊 Then at our “official” 19 week ultrasound a couple weeks ago, the sonographer confirmed it’s baby blue for number two.
I’m obsessed with being a boy mom, and little boys seem to suit us perfectly. My husband is excited to save money on baby clothes, since our boys’ sizes and seasons will match up at exactly two years apart.😂 But in all seriousness, he’s the second boy in his family (I’m second child, too), so we think there’s something pretty special about #2.
Rapid-fire questions (same ones every update):
Baby is the size of: a mango, or the length of a banana.
Food cravings: cream cheese, cottage cheese, ice cream. Same, same, same.
Best moment of the week: Feeling baby kick! I started feeling consistent movements around week 19, although it’s most noticeable at night when I’ve quieted down, and especially when I lay in bed at night. I love this feeling so much, I wish I could bottle it up to remember forever.
Oh, second answer…seeing baby’s profile on the anatomy ultrasound! He is absolutely beautiful, but it’s more than that. I swear it’s when I felt my heart change and become a mom of two. I fell in love hard with that boy.
What I miss: I don’t miss anything right now. After meeting this guy at the ultrasound and reading about friends trying to keep pregnancies, I can honestly say I don’t wish for anything other than being right here and now with this babe.
What I’m looking forward to: Setting up the nursery. I’m bursting with decorating ideas and thoughts about how to re-use baby furniture and arrange clothes. I love building a new nest. Shocking, I know. I’m just trying to spread the enjoyment over a few months rather than finish it in a weekend, like I want to.
Anything else?: That fancy pic above was taken at 18 weeks pregnant while celebrating my parents’ 40th wedding anniversary in Jackson Hole. Despite wishing that was my everyday life, a more accurate representation can be seen to the left…loungewear, ponytail, Brady wanting to be held and contorting to turn off the lights (his favorite thing) while brushing his teeth (his second favorite thing). Keepin’ it real, guys.
People often ask if Brady knows he’s going to be a big brother. Not a clue. He’s almost 19 months and there’s no concept of siblings or future plans beyond his next snack. He does know the word “friend” and points to himself with both thumbs, which is very cute. He can also say “baby boy” (it’s what he calls himself…that or “big boyyyya!”) and knows how to find mommy’s belly button (which of course will disappear soon), but that’s as close as we get with his current level of comprehension. We’ll see how much that changes over the next 4 months.
More preggo updates in a few weeks. Thanks so much for reading! 💙
